Wedding Trends We Love: The Great Gatsby

This year marks the 90th anniversary of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby.” While Gatsby themed parties took the nation by storm with the arrival of the motion picture based on the novel in 2013, the trend of celebrating the roaring 20s isn’t losing any steam – especially in the wedding industry. We have gathered some of our favorite images from past weddings with Bellagala’s photography services that have Gatsby inspired details to give you some ideas on how to incorporate this trend into your own big day.

Not wanting to break away from the classic wedding dress? These brides chose a second dresses to go with their theme to wear solely during their reception. You can’t go wrong with intricate beaded patterns or a flapper style dress when working with this theme.

Anything golden or adorned with beads will work great for centerpieces to go along with a Gatsby themed wedding reception. This New Year’s Eve wedding at A’BULAE featured above included big feathers and gold painted branches with hanging beads and flowers. It’s almost like they were celebrating in Gatsby’s mansion themselves.

Try visiting a local antique shop or thrift store to see what pieces of vintage decor you can use as decorations for your wedding reception. You might even have relatives hanging on to antiques you can borrow for the day. We love the idea of having guests write out their well wishes for the happy couple via typewriter too.

If you really want to rock your theme, see if you can rent a classic car for your wedding exit!

Of course, don’t forget the other details of your day like your programs, invitations, RSVPs, and place cards. Vintage looking fonts and gold embellishments are an easy way to set the theme in these pieces. Don’t let the gold additions stop there. This pop of color can be added into other details of your day like plates, tablecloths, and even your wedding cake for extra pizazz!
